KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — DAP could field central executive committee member Young Syefura Othman in place of the incumbent Wong Tack for the Bentong federal seat during the 15th general election, sources said.

According to Malaysiakini, the sources further said Wong would be offered the Cameron Highlands seat as an alternative.

“What I understand is the party’s central leadership is still waiting for his answer. Hopefully, he will make a decision by this evening,” one source was quoted as saying.

The sources said Wong would not likely be offered any other seat in the event he did not want to run in Cameron Highlands.

Cameron Highlands is considered a Barisan Nasional stronghold, which Pakatan Harapan could not win even when it secured its unexpected victory during the 14th general election.

However, close associates of the environmental activist have said that he has indicated that he was certain to feature in GE15.

Wong rose to prominence on the back of his opposition to Australian mining firm Lynas Corp’s rare-earths processing plant in Pahang, and used it as his primary platform during the campaign for the 2018 general election.

Young Syefura — or Rara as she is commonly called — is the incumbent for the Ketari state seat in Pahang.

DAP is set to announce its candidates for Pahang seats at 11am tomorrow.
