DARO, Oct 23 — Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg today said all candidates recommended by the four component parties will be vetted before they are selected to contest on the coalition’s ticket in the 15th general election (GE15).

He said the name list will be sent to the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Department of Insolvency for background checks.

“If they are cleared, then they will be selected as candidates. Otherwise, they will not be picked” he told reporters after opening the Daro sports complex here.

Abang Johari said he will announce the candidates later but teased that among the new faces would be those challenging in 12 seats with Opposition incumbents. “You have to wait for the announcement of who will be these new faces,” he said.

Abang Johari claimed the publics sentiments indicate that the GPS’s chances were good for the general election.

PBB is expected to contest 14 seats while SUPP, PRS, and PDP will contest seven, six, and four, respectively, for the coalition.

In the 2018, the parties won 19 federal seats in Sarawak as part of the Barisan Nasional coalition that lost the general election.
