KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — Incumbent Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said he has handpicked a candidate to replace him in the constituency he was leaving after three terms in a bid to regain Titiwangsa for Amanah.

The Amanah communications chief declined to name his would-be successor, but indicated that the person was from the constituency who has been groomed as a possible replacement.

“I am very particular about Shah Alam and I will not surrender the seat to someone I do not believe in,” he was quoted as saying by the Free Malaysia Today news portal.

Khalid was departing from the constituency he first won in 2008 and heading to Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur to spearhead the campaign to regain the seat from ally-turned-rival Bersatu.

In 2018, Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Rina Harun won Titiwangsa while the party had been part of Pakatan Harapan.

As Bersatu was no longer part of PH, Amanah has started laying claim to the seat on grounds that it had been won by PAS in 2008; Amanah was a splinter party of PAS.
