NIBONG TEBAL, Oct 22 — As the Festival of Lights approaches, J. Mishalin, 37, is working round-the-clock to fulfil customers’ orders for her best-selling murukku, rose cookies (achu murukku) and other varieties of modern cookies.

The home-based baker said there had been a significant increase in orders and sales since the end of September this year due to the Deepavali festival.

“Many orders I received are for murukku, rose cookies and a few others such as peanut and Almond London cookies. However, I had to cut down on a few orders as there were way too many orders coming in,” she told Bernama when met at her house here recently.

Elaborating, Mishalin said her customers are multiracial and also come from as far as Pahang, Kuala Lumpur and Kedah.

Besides Deepavali, she also received orders for other festivals and special occasions like Christmas, Hari Raya and Chinese New Year.“I have multiracial customers who keep coming back because I only use high-quality ingredients to produce my cookie,” she said.

According to Mishalin, her business was badly affected during the pandemic, and now, she was grateful that she could get back on track.

“Praise be to God that I can have a smooth sailing business this year. I hope that my traditional and modern cookies will continue to draw many more customers so that I can make up for the losses I have suffered for the past two years,” she added.

Mishalin’s traditional cookies are sold between RM25 and RM100 per pack, while modern cookies are priced between RM24 and RM35 per pack. — Bernama
