JOHOR BARU, Oct 13 — The Malaysia United Democratic Alliance (Muda) welcomed Pakatan Harapan’s offer to form an electoral pact for the 15th general election, said deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz.
She said the collaboration would be natural given the shared values and multiculturalism in both her party and the PH coalition.
“From day one, when Muda announced our intention to join PH — the vision was clear. We want to offer the best to Malaysians,” she said in a statement today.
The Puteri Wangsa assemblyman was responding PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim saying the coalition has decided to form an electoral pact with Muda and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) for GE15.
Amira Aisya, who is also Muda’s election director, noted that some of the policies of PH when it was the government had served as the basis of her party’s efforts later, demonstrating the common ground between them
“In fact, Muda and PH are already working together in many available areas. From speaking up for the people on the street, to having good relations in the Dewan Rakyat and the state legislative assembly.
“I also express my excitement to be with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is constantly steering to position the coalition at the forefront for the people and country,” said Amira Aisya.
Yesterday, it was reported that Anwar said the discussions with both Muda and PSM were positive, with the coalition’s leaders agreeing to work together with both parties for GE15.
Muda officially began talks with PH to join the coalition last month, and their inclusion, if accepted, would make them the coalition’s fifth component party.
However, Muda had also faced fierce opposition from PH component PKR and its Youth wing over its application.
Muda made its debut in Malaysia’s political landscape in the Johor state polls in March this year, where the party won the Putri Wangsa seat out of seven contested in the southern state.
