PASIR GUDANG, Oct 13 — The Department of Environment (DoE) took action against a metal plating factory in Tanjung Langsat here today after tracing air pollutants in the area to it.

The DoE said its Johor personnel carried out an operation yesterday and seized factory equipment under Section 38(1)(a) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

“The air and effluent control equipment at the premises involved was found not to be in working order and failed to operate properly,” it said in a statement.

The DoE also said it found the factory had continued its operations in violation of Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations 2014, the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009 and the Environmental Quality Regulations (Scheduled Waste) 2005 Enactments.

The agency said it has ordered the factory to take remedial action.

“All industrial premises are reminded to always comply with the requirements of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and the Regulations under it where stern action will be taken if there is offenses related to polluting of the environment,” the DoE said.
