PETALING JAYA, Oct 13 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) founding member Datuk Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff officially joined PKR today, after leaving the former party last week.
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced Rais’ entry into the party, hailing the latter as an intellectual but stressed that he has not been offered a berth to contest during the 15th general election.
“There is no discussion whatsoever about any seats,” he told a press conference at the party’s headquarters today.
Rais, who has been on the central leadership council of Bersatu, said after his introduction that he has wanted to fight against corruption and for reform since he joined politics.
“Whatever I can contribute, I will contribute; whatever I can do, I will do.
“We don’t just want to say we want to save Malaysia, but what solutions can we bring to the people,” he said.
Aside from Rais, former Bersatu member and former Umno Bera vice chief Mohamed Jidi Yaakob was also welcomed into PKR by Anwar today.
Mohamed Jidi was Bersatu candidate in Kemayan state seat in Pahang in the 2018 general election, and is also a Felda settler and businessman.
“I am happy that Keadilan (PKR) accepted me,” he said.
