KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — The Health Ministry today recorded 10,177 new Covid-19 infections as of yesterday.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the bulk of those who contracted the coronavirus were asymptomatic or had only mild symptoms while 31 patients were placed in Category 3, another 14 patients in Category 4 and 18 falling under Category 5 for the most severe symptoms.
He also said ventilator usage is currently at 12 per cent.
Dr Noor Hisham said 20 out of the 63 patients who made up Categories 3 to 5 were either not vaccinated or only partially vaccinated.
Another 22 of the 63 patients had received two doses of the vaccines but not their boosters.
The remaining 21 patients out of the 63 were fully vaccinated and boosted.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that 38 out of the 63 with serious symptoms were those aged 63 and above, adding that 35 had comorbidities while two were pregnant mothers.
Selangor is currently the only state in which hospital bed occupancy for Covid-19 patients have exceeded 50 per cent both in the intensive care units (58 per cent) and non-intensive care units (51 per cent).
Dr Noor Hisham added that none of the states have crossed 50 per cent bed occupancy in their low-risk Covid-19 integrated quarantine and treatment centres.
