MUAR, March 12 ― [11:58pm] Barisan Nasional has officially won 40 seats in the Johor state election, according to official figures released by the Election Commission tonight.

This was followed by Pakatan Harapan with 11 seats and Perikatan Nasional with three seats.

Meanwhile, PKR and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) secured one seat each.

This means that BN has taken control of the 56-seat state legislative assembly and will form the next state government.

[10:56pm] BN's Abd Mutalip defeats Pakatan’s Maszlee in Layang-Layang

Maszlee Malik of PKR failed to secure the Layang-Layang seat for Pakatan Harapan against Barisan Nasional's Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim who won with a 2,815-vote majority.

Maszlee managed to win 4,736 votes against the 7,551 won by Abd Mutalip — who was the state assemblyman there from 2013 to 2018.

Two other candidates, Perikatan Nasional's Alagenthiran Krishnan and Pejuang's Ahmad Shafiq Othaman lost their deposits.

[10:54pm] DAP's Marina Ibrahim wins Skudai

Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Marina Ibrahim won convincingly in Skudai with a 13,943-vote majority.

The DAP rep won 26,359 votes against BN's Lim Soon Hai and Khoo Kong Ek who got 12,416 and 6,258 votes respectively.

[10:45pm] PKR takes Bukit Batu with slim majority

PKR has won its first official seat of Bukit Batu with a very slim majority of 137.

PKR candidate Arthur Chiong received 9,439 votes, defeating Barisan Nasional's S. Suppayah (9,302) and Perikatan Nasional's Tan Heng Choon (3,989).

Another candidate Lee Ming Wen from Warisan lost his deposit.

[10.35pm] BN retains Benut, wins Gambir

Incumbent caretaker Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad has retained the Benut state seat in the Johor state polls with a bigger majority than he previously obtained during the 14th general election (GE14).

The Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman comfortably won the Benut state seat with a 5,859 majority in a four-cornered contest according to the official Election Commission (EC) result tonight.

He obtained a total of 10,896 votes.

Hasni previously won the seat in the GE14 in 2018 with a 4,447 majority.

In the current state polls, he contested against Parti Pejuang Tanah Air’s Iskandar Noor Ibrahim, Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Isa Ab. Hamid and PKR’s Haniff @ Ghazali Hosman.

His closest rival from PN garnered 5,037 votes while both PKR and Pejuang’s candidates who managed to get 1,200 votes and 139 votes, respectively, lost their deposits.

Separately, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) failed to defend their Gambir seat after losing to BN.

Muhyiddin had previously stated he wished not to defend his seat, as it would allow him to focus on more important issues at the Parliamentary and central levels, as well as handle party-related matters.

BN’s candidate Sahrihan Jani clinched victory with a 3,146 majority or 7,960 total votes over PN’s Mohd Solihan Badri who managed to garner 4,814 votes.

Mohd Solihan is Johor Bersatu Information chief.

PKR’s Naim Jusri came in third with 4,509 votes while Pejuang’s Suraya Sulaiman lost her deposit after just managing to secure 220 votes.

[10:25pm] Pakatan takes Bentayan

Pakatan Harapan (PH) has won the state seat of Bentayan.

PH candidate Ng Yak Howe received 10,973 votes, or a 7,476-vote majority, defeating Barisan Nasional’s Gan Qi Ru and Perikatan Nasional’s Eddy Tan Kok Hong.

[10.15pm] Perikatan records first win in Johor polls with Endau

Perikatan Nasional (PN) has chalked up its first official win at the Johor state election by taking Endau.

PN candidate Alwiyah Talib won with a 3,041-vote majority against Youzaimi Mohd Yusof from Barisan Nasional (BN) with 8,433 to 5,392 votes.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Mohammad Fakrulradzi, Pejuang’s Mohd Noorhisyam Ibrahim and independent Ismail Don all lost their deposits.

[10:11pm] PKR, Pejuang lose deposits in Johor Lama

PKR candidate Omar Mokhtar and Pejuang candidate Mohd Shukor Ahmad lost their deposit after official results  for Johor Lama were announced by the Election Commission (EC) tonight.

The seat was won by Norlizah Noh from Barisan Nasional with 12,171 votes, or a 6,039-vote majority over Alias Rasman of Perikatan Nasional who received 6,132 votes.
