KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — The Health Ministry today reported another 7,420 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a tweet that the new cases bring the total number of cases in Malaysia to 2,377,033.

Today’s 7,420 is a slight drop in the number of Covid-19 cases from yesterday, which recorded 8,084 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said that there are 700 patients being treated in intensive care units (ICU), of which 635 are suspected, probable or under investigation for Covid-19.

“Out of these 700, 364 need ventilators to help them breathe including 282 who are confirmed to be positive for Covid-19 and 82 who are suspected, probable or under investigation for Covid-19,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

He said that only 108 out of the 7,420 cases today, or 1.5 per cent, are in categories 3, 4 and 5, while the remaining 7,312 or 98.5 per cent are in categories 1 and 2.

Dr Noor Hisham added that 13 new clusters were also detected in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of active clusters to 721.

“Of the 13 new clusters, nine involve workplaces, three from community transmissions and one involving an education institution,” he said.

He said that Malaysia’s rate of infection currently stands at 0.88, with Negri Sembilan being the state with the highest infectivity rate, which stands at 1.04.

Labuan continues to be the only state or federal territory in Malaysia to have a 0 infectivity rate.
