KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said children in Malaysia below the age of 12 might be offered the Covid-19 vaccine in the future.
During a press conference today, he said that the government is talking to a Covid-19 vaccine manufacturer that has issued an early clinical phase data report on inoculation for under-12s.
“I already had a meeting with one vaccine producer company that recently released early clinical phase data on vaccination for kids below 12 years of age and we are still discussing acquiring the vaccines,” he said.
He added that the identity of the vaccine manufacturer will be made public once the agreement is signed.
“We will disclose the company’s name once we have signed the agreement,” he added.
Previously, it was reported that the National Youth Immunisation Programme officially kicked off on September 20 and has vaccinated 410,489 teenagers as of September 21.
In terms of states, Sabah leads with 140,890 shots, followed by Sarawak (85,291), Kedah (31,294), Kelantan (17,413), Johor (27,936) and Labuan (2,515).
