KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 infections fell to 15,548 cases over the past 24 hours.

The new cases were 2,028 fewer than yesterday’s 17,577.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sarawak is still the state with the most cases at 2,929, followed by Johor at 2,208 and Selangor at 1,995.

Among states that have recorded below double figures were Perlis with 57 cases, followed by Putrajaya with 23 cases and Labuan with seven cases.

Today’s rate pushed the cumulative total number of cases to 2,082,876 since the pandemic arrived in Malaysia.

Dr Noor Hisham also revealed that one person has tested positive for Covid-19 out of 2,507 individuals screened under Langkawi Tourism Bubble Pilot Project.

According to the Covid-19 capacity and usage of beds data, usage of non-intensive care unit (ICU) beds stands at 68 per cent or 17,028 patients, while those who are currently admitted in the ICU are at 76 per cent or 1,611 patients.

In a statement later, Dr Noor Hisham said that 16 new clusters have been detected in the past 24 hours pushing the total number of active clusters to 1,364 as of today.

He added that 1,165 cases are being treated in intensive care units (ICU).

Out of the total number of patients being treated in ICU, 689 needed ventilators.

Dr Noor Hisham also mentioned that only 263 cases are classified as in more critical condition, while the remaining only have mild symptoms.
