KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has today called for medical professionals to volunteer in the country’s fight to contain the worsening Covid-19 pandemic.

The advertisement posted by the ministry and its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on social media called for medical officers, dentists, medical assistants, nurses, and lab technicians among others to join its cause.

It also stated that the government will not be paying any allowance to those who volunteer, with all necessary costs to be borne by those who are keen.

“For information, the MOH does not provide transportation, logistics, food or allowance/salary for volunteers. All costs throughout the volunteer service are to be borne personally,” the advertisement read.

The ministry is also seeking health inspectors and assistant health inspectors.

Those interested to volunteer must be between 18 and 60 years old, be willing to be deployed to locations needing their services, and have no close contact with Covid-19 cases within 14 days. Female applicants must also not be pregnant.

Applicants must also be physically and mentally healthy, and must obtain their employers’ permission to volunteer.

Dr Noor Hisham also shared a link to an online application form for those who are keen.

“For any further enquiries, please email to [email protected],” he tweeted.

However, the failure to cover any of the volunteers’ costs drew mixed response online, with some saying at least meals should be provided.

Others defended the ministry by saying those applying would be volunteers in the purest sense.
