KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today said that Malaysia has recorded 835 Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours.
In a press conference this evening, he said there were 674 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 18,499.
“The 835 new cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 28,640,” he said adding that the two deaths bring the toll to 238.
Dr Noor Hisham said of the 835 new cases only five were imported cases.
The five imported cases involved one Malaysian, and four foreigners who arrived from India, Indonesia, Thailand and Bulgaria.
He said the two deaths both from Tawau, Sabah involved one Malaysian aged 82 and a foreigner aged 53 with both cases having a history for chronic health condition.
“At the moment we have a total of 9,903 people are still being treated, with 89 receiving intensive care, of which 32 require respiratory assistance,” he said.
Meanwhile on the breakdown of cases according to states, Dr Noor Hisham said Sabah saw a large drop in new cases being reported compared to earlier this week.
He said there were 410 cases in Sabah and 155 cases in Negri Sembilan.
The other states which recorded cases were Selangor (125), Labuan (74), Sarawak (16), Penang (13), Perak (11), KL (nine) and Johor (eight). Kedah and Terengganu each recorded four cases while Putrajaya and Melaka each had one.
He added that most of the cases came from existing clusters and screening of close contacts of positive cases.
The five imported cases involved one Malaysian and four foreigners who arrived from India, Indonesia, Thailand and Bulgaria.
