KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — Malaysia recorded 37 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total to 6,978 cases.
Out of the 37 cases, two are import cases while 35 are local transmissions, where 22 are non-Malaysians, bringing the total of active cases to 1,218.
“Eleven cases are being treated at intensive care units where six are in need of ventilators.
“One death was recorded today. This brings cumulative deaths to 114,” he said during the Health Ministry’s daily briefing on Covid-19.
The 114th death (Case #6,942) was a 77-year-old Malaysian woman aged 77 who had background of diabetes, hypertension and liver cancer.
According to Dr Noor Hisham, she was treated at a medical centre in Pahang and died on May 18 at 3.09am.
Updates on active clusters as of today, the MOH reported seven more positive cases from the Chow Kit cluster bringing the total to 88 cases, six from the Pudu cluster bringing the total to 56 cases and the Cheras mall security personnel cluster with one new case bringing the total to 26 positive cases.
“There are not new additional cases in other clusters,” Dr Noor Hisham said.
As for returnees from overseas, two new positive cases were detected among those who returned from Singapore.
