AMPANG, May 3 — For controversial celebrity Azwan Ali, food is an essential part of his campaign in the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat in Selangor, where he seeks to unseat his brother and caretaker Selangor mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Two days after cooking a feast of rendang for the residents here, the independent candidate today bought the Malay snacks of “kuih” and rice for about 50 Bukit Antarabangsa residents here.

However, this time Azwan was not the man doing the cooking — he footed the bill for residents who bought their meals from a popular food truck here, and admitted he still has two more such “events” left up his sleeve.

“This is the second so-called winning strategy. I will do two more such events and after that I will rest and wait for the election,” Azwan told Malay Mail here.

“The crowd has been overwhelming, and they appreciate my presence,” he added.

Azwan also truly believes that using food is a key strategy in endearing himself to the voters.

“I believe that food unites us all. Because of food, everybody can come back to the same path,” he added.

However, Azwan has continued to take a swipe at his brother, Azmin, for not turning up in Bukit Antarabangsa to meet his supporters.

“You are the representative of this place. Where were you?” he asked, referring to Azmin.

According to Azwan, he had made more effort in connecting with the people here compared to Azmin.
