KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 — Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) is still part of the Gagasan Sejahtera pact although some of its members are reportedly contesting in the 14th General Election (GE-14) against PAS, says PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

He said the actions of the said Berjasa members were not part of the Gagasan Sejahtera agreement as it had been decided that Berjasa candidates would only be contesting under the PAS logo in two parliamentary constituencies, namely Selayang and Tanjung Piai.

“Other candidates contesting under the Berjasa logo are outside the Gagasan Sejahtera pact because the seats they are contesting already have PAS candidates, and we did not issue the letter of electoral candidacy to them,” he told a press conference at the PAS Headquarters here today.

Gagasan Sejahtera comprises PAS, Parti Iktan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and Berjasa.

The media previously reported that due to the clash in three seats between PAS and Berjasa, namely Cameron Highlands (parliamentary), Batu Kurau (state) and Sungai Manik (state), there is speculation that Berjasa had withdrawn from the pact.

Takiyuddin said the PAS machinery would only support its own candidates in the three seats. — Bernama
