KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — US-based Harvard Business School (HBS) has denied it plans to set up an overseas campus in Malaysia similar to centres in India and China.

The graduate business school of the Ivy League Harvard University said that it was only offering a programme here called “HBS Malaysia Competing on Business Analytics and Big Data”, The Malaysian Reserve (TMR) clarified after earlier reporting that Malaysia had been picked as the site of its third overseas campus.

“The programme is for senior executives of Malaysian and Asean firms focused on helping participants harness the potential of big data to make more informed decisions at all levels of their organizations,” HBS chief marketing and communications officer Brian C Kenny was quoted saying.

According to Kenny, the programme is carried out with the Centre of Applied Data Science (CADS) and has 6,000 data professionals trained at facilities provided by CADS to date.

He added that the CADS is planning to enter into an agreement with HBS’ digital platform, HBX, to make the HBX Credential of Readiness (CORe) programme available to Malaysians and others in the Asean region.

Yesterday, TMR had quoted an unnamed source saying HBS had reached an understanding with the Malaysian government to host its third overseas campus outside the US.

It was reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was expected to make an official announcement on the matter.
