TEMERLOH, Feb 5 — Retail company Tunas Manja Group (TMG), one of the driving forces behind Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) 2.0, will spend RM35 million to open 60 more TMG Express outlets nationwide by year-end.

Its Managing Director, Datuk Chin Yoke Kan said the outlets would be set up in various places, including small towns to enable customers to buy basic necessities at low prices.

He said TMG Group currently has 42 branches, of them 21 are offering KR1M 2.0 items.

“We will ensure that all TMG Express outlets have room for KR1M items by the middle of this year and this will be implemented in stages at all branches,” he told Bernama here today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday launched KR1M 2.0 at the TMG Mall in Temerloh.

The KR1M 2.0, an improvement to the previous KR1M introduced in 2011, is spearheaded by Perbadanan Nasional Bhd in collaboration with two retail companies, namely Tunas Manja Group (TMG) and KK Mart as strategic partners.

Fifty daily branded necessities will be sold cheaper at the supermarket chains run by TMG and KK Mart nationwide.

Commenting on the partnership, Chin said it was part of TMG’s contribution to reduce the people’s burden in facing the rising cost of living.

“Besides offering four basic necessities, namely sugar, flour, rice and cooking oil, we are also selling 50 more daily necessities cheaper than market prices.

“In this regard, the government does not subsidise us, but the government together with TMG’s representatives are discussing with manufacturers to get the best prices and a ‘win-win’ situation to all parties involved.

“It’s done to ensure that people get the best benefits and spend prudently in the volatile economic condition,” he said.

Chin said currently TMG Express has three outlets in the East Coast and more goods would be supplied from the supermarket chain to enable the customers to have more choices. — Bernama
