The family, consisting of both parents and five children, were assisted by firemen from the Tebrau Fire and Rescue station.
Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said flash flooding was reported earlier today in five areas of south Johor following a downpour which started at 3.30pm.
“Among the areas affected were Kampung Maju Jaya, Kampung Laut Skudai, Kampung Paya Kenangan, Kampung Kangkar Tebrau as well as stretches of Jalan Skudai,” he said in a statement today.
Ayub said the Civil Defence Force, which is the lead agency under the state’s disaster management committee deployed their Johor Baru district personnel to provide aid to victims in the affected areas.
"So far, only one family from Kampung Paya Kenangan in Kangkar Tebrau was evacuated to the only relief centre we opened,” he said.
As of 6.30pm, the Johor Baru disaster management committee secretariat reported that the flash floods along Jalan Skudai and in Kampung Laut Skudai had subsided.
However, three other areas; Kampung Maju Jaya, Kampung Paya Kenangan and Kampung Pasir Kangar Tebrau still reported high to moderate water levels.
It is drizzling in certain areas and the situation is being monitored closely by the Civil Defence Force personnel.
