LENGGONG, Nov 7 ― A thorough solution is required to address the floods which hit the Hulu Perak area, especially in Gerik and Lenggong Parliamentary constituencies, said Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir.

He said the state government would also request help from the federal government to address the flood problem in the areas.

He said the flash floods which occurred in the two Parliamentary constituencies a few days ago were due to the unusual amount of rainfall lately.

“The state government wants a solution, because the gush of water through the streams have caused flash floods, resulting in the collapse of several small bridges,” he told reporters after visiting several areas affected by floods here, last night.

In the incident yesterday, more than 10 villages in Lenggong were hit by flash floods including Malau, Sumpitan and Kampong Geluk.

Meanwhile, Zambry said he would discuss with the Public Works Department, Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and the respective district councils to use some allocation from the Federal Government for solving the problem.

“I do not want to hear of any more inter-department problems when handling the floods,” he said. ― Bernama
