KUANTAN, June 15 — Toll road concessionaire Anih Berhad has announced a 10 per cent discount on the roll rate for the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and the East Coast Expressway (LPT) for Aidilfitri on June 25.
Its executive director, Datuk Nik Fauzi Nik Hussein, said the discount could be enjoyed by all classes of vehicle using Touch ‘n Go and SmartTag for payment between 12am and 11.59pm on that day.
He said the discount was an incentive for the users of the two expressways on Aidilfitri, besides being a corporate social responsibility programme of the company.
He also said that the average number of vehicles using the two expressways during peak periods was expected to rise 73.8 per cent to 245,000.
“It is estimated that more than 2.2 million vehicles will use the expressways over 15 days from June 18, an increase of three per cent compared to the Aidilfitri festive period last year,” he said after a breaking-of-fast event with Pahang media here last night.
Nik Fauzi said the peak periods on the expressways for the upcoming festive period were expected to be between June 22 and 24 for the flow of traffic to the east coast and between June 27 and 28 and July 1 and 2 for the flow of traffic back to Kuala Lumpur.
He said Anih Berhad had drawn up various measures to help all road users enjoy a comfortable journey on the expressways during the festive period.
One of the measures was to increase the number of toll clerks by 17 per cent to 272 to expedite electronic and cash toll collection at all toll plazas, he said.
“Up to 121 traffic teams comprising staff of LPT-Patrol, almost 40 highway policemen, 36 Fire and Rescue Unit personnel and 30 Civil Defence Force members will be on standby round the clock at strategic locations.
“Furthermore, 176 People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) personnel will also be on duty at all toll plazas and rest areas,” he said.
Nik Fauzi said the company was also providing a Travel Time Advisery as a reference for road users to plan their journey to the east coast during the festive period to avoid traffic congestion at the toll plazas, particularly the Gombak, Bentong and Karak plazas.
He said road users must ensure that they had sufficient balance in their Touch ‘n Go card before entering the expressways so as to enjoy a smooth ride.
“The Touch ‘n Go top-up lane at KLK and LPT 1 will operate according to the traffic situation. If traffic begins to build up, the top-up facility will be closed to avoid congestion at the toll plaza,” he said. — Bernama
