KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 25 — MCA Youth has backed its chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon today against Umno’s Sekijang MP Anuar Abd Manap who accused him of being ungrateful over Putrajaya’s annual allocation for Chinese schools.

The wing’s vice-chairman Nicole Wong said Chong’s statement was in line with the party’s stand which rejected the allocation as it was lesser than the RM50 million that was promised as per wishes of the Chinese community.

“MCA insists that Chinese primary schools should receive (the full) RM50 million. If the complete amount of RM50 million as allocated for SJKCs have yet to be fully disbursed in entirety, no lesser amount will be taken despite being disbursed earlier.

“This is the party’s position which is in line with the general wishes of the Chinese community. Senator Datuk Chong is upholding MCA’s position and that of the Chinese community. What is offensive with this stand?” she said in a statement today.

SJKC is the Malay acronym for the Chinese-language national primary school.

Wong was responding to Umno’s Sekijang MP Anuar Abd Manap who took a swipe at Chong, claiming he was not being grateful for the annual allocation given for the maintenance of Chinese schools by Putrajaya.

She also pointed out that there has been contradicting statements made by Cabinet ministers on the allocation matter and Anuar should instead train his guns on them.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid was reported to have said that budget cuts faced by his ministry had caused the allocation to for Chinese schools to reduce.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani meanwhile claimed that allocation for Chinese schools had not been cut.
