KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 ― Parti Amanah Negara deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said today former Umno vice president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal's upcoming Sabah party is no threat to Pakatan Harapan.
But he said the three parties from the Opposition coalition will meet on October 12 to discuss on the recent exodus of the state's PKR and DAP members.
“We do not view Shafie's new party as a threat. In fact, we support any parties that are against Barisan Nasional and Umno.
“As for Pakatan members who left the party recently, we will discuss this in a meeting on October 12,” he said.
Salahuddin said this at a joint press conference with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
Commenting on this, Mukhriz said he was informed that Shafie's new state-based party was strong enough to “shake up” Umno.
“Although Shafie's new party has not been approved by the Registrar of Society, we agree with it in principle,” Mukhriz added.
On Sunday, seven DAP Sabah leaders, all part of the 16-member state committee, quit the peninsula-based party for a local political platform.
Sabah PKR chief Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin also announced his resignation the same day, while his deputy, Darrell Leiking left earlier in the week.
Some of those who exited the Pakatan Harapan parties are set to align with Shafie's new multiracial party.
Lajim is also reportedly set to launch his own political party.
