PETALING JAYA, April 26 — Former Miss Malaysia/World 1991 Samantha Schubert died yesterday of pancreatic cancer at the Prince Court Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Schubert, 47, was the youngest of three children of public relations practitioner and political analyst Datuk Paddy Bowie.
The actress and producer was also a successful model in the early 90s.
She was known for her acting roles in The Red Kebaya (2006), Amok (1997) and Red Scorpion 2 (1994).
According to her official website, her career included several print campaigns and over 30 television commercials.
Schubert has a son, Thomas, from her marriage to Oliver Knotts. She also has two other adopted children, Jodie and Harry.
Actress Tiara Jacquelina tweeted from Hobart in Tasmania, Australia: “Just heard the tragic news of the passing of a dear friend, actress Samantha Schubert, just minutes ago. Samantha was one of the members of the Kit Kat Klub show and could dance to Paula Abdul’s Straight Up like nobody else could. Rest with the angels, laugh and dance once again dear Sam. May your strength live on in the beautiful children you raised. Love you much. #RiPsamanthaschubert”
Social activist Marina Mahathir posted on Facebook: “Rest in peace, Samantha Schubert ... too, too young to go.”
Fellow thespian Shanthini Venugopal shared a couple of pictures with a poem which ended with the words: “Now you’re free Sam. Fly away.”
Five Arts Centre posted a picture of Samantha performing in the production of Lloyd Fernando’s Scorpion Orchid in 1995 with the message: “Rest In Peace, Samantha Schubert. Deepest condolences to her family.”
