KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri today insisted that she should not be labelled de facto law minister although the law portfolio falls under her purview in the Cabinet.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby today, Nancy said although she oversees the portfolio, she is not the authority in all matters concerning the country’s laws.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali is the rightful authority in the subject, she added.
“So many people have called me de facto law minister. That is not true. I am not a de facto law minister,” she said.
“I am a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. And law is one of the portfolios I answer for in Parliament, that is all.”
Nancy took over the portfolio in 2013 from her predecessor Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, who was also at the time labelled de facto law minister.
