KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — Datuk Ibrahim Ali thanked Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed today for likening him to US presidential candidate Donald Trump, a man he described as straight-talking and not hypocritical.
The Perkasa president said he took the comparison as a compliment as it puts him on the same level with those vying for the US presidency.
“Ha ha… that’s an unexpected endorsement but one that I accept with pleasure. It means I am on the same level with the US presidential candidates… and it also helps make Malaysia more famous,” he said in a statement.
Ibrahim then went on to extol Trump’s virtues as a politician who does not mince his words or twist facts, and who he said is not afraid of expressing his views.
“I’m really flattered and indeed I am impressed by Donald Trump because he is not a hypocrite. Donald Trump is the sort of person who speaks frankly, simply and is direct to the point just like Malaysia’s Ibrahim Ali,” he said.
“This means Donald Trump is not a hypocrite and I, Ibrahim Ali, have always used the anti-hypocrite motto… I recently even distributed ‘reject hypocrites’ stickers,” he added.
Earlier today, Nur Jazlan, when criticising the Republican party for putting Trump as its frontrunner in the presidential nomination race, said he was the US’s version of Ibrahim Ali, who has in the past made headlines for fanning racial tensions with his remarks.
Similarly, Trump has targeted Muslims and American migrants throughout his campaign trail, and Nur Jazlan described the US politician as “racist and stupid”.
