KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak received a donation from the Saudi royalty in 2013 which was given without any conditions attached, Datuk Azalina Othman Said confirmed in Parliament today.
In a written reply to Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian, the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department also said Najib had returned a sum of RM2.03 billion, unused.
“The donation was a private contribution to the Prime Minister from the Saudi Royal family and was given without any expectation in return.
“In August 2013, he had returned the RM2.03 billion to the Saudi royalty, as none of it was used” she said.
The Pengerang MP however did not specify how much the initial donation to Najib was or who specifically from the Saudi royal family was involved.
The opposition lawmaker had asked Azalina for the identity of the donor and how much of the sum was returned by the prime minister.
The prime minister has been in the spotlight over a deposit into his private accounts worth the equivalent of RM2.6 billion, but which he maintains he has never used personally.
