KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 — Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the memorandum of understanding (Mou) to send 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia.
According to a report by bdnews24.com, as cited by New Straits Times (NST), Bangladeshi cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said that the Mou is expected to be signed with Malaysia within a month.
Mohammad Shafiul said the workers will be sent under a ‘G2G Plus’ system.
“Now workers can be sent for the service, manufacture and construction sectors. Earlier it was limited to plantation only,” he was quoted as saying.
The report also stated that once the Mou is signed, the cost to send a worker would be between Tk34,000 and Tk37,000 (about RM1813 and RM1973), with employers to bear the cost.
