KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 — Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed would rather retire than take unnecessary action against his officers over baseless allegations, a leaked internal memo from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said.

In the memo, which a source confirmed to Malay Mail Online was sent out yesterday, Abu Kassim also vowed on behalf of the agency’s top management to continue carrying out his duties freely, professionally and with integrity.

“There are bloggers trying to provoke me into taking action against my officers for a number of reasons, which I believe and I am confident are baseless.

“In my 30 years of experience in this field, I know that MACC’s officers have always carried out their duties and responsibilities in a professional manner.

“I would like to stress that I would rather retire than take action against officers who have all along been upholding justice and defending MACC’s independence, apart from carrying out their duties according to the laws of the country,” he said in the memo.

Asked to comment on Abu Kassim’s remark about the bloggers, the source declined to offer details, saying that MACC officers have been told not to respond to any queries.

Despite this, the source said the agency has continued to come under attack.

The MACC has been in the spotlight over its recent investigations on the RM2.6 billion donation controversy and the case against SRC International Berhad, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
