PUTRAJAYA, Dec 1 — Beginning Jan 1, all 1,642 vacant teacher posts in Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) nationwide will be filled by 1,673 graduates, says Deputy Education Minister Chong Sin Woon.

The additional 31 teachers who are Sarawakians will be posted to the state to serve national schools (SK) while awaiting vacancies at SJKC, he said.

“There is a shortage of 60 teachers in national schools so it will be filled by 31 teachers from SJKC and 29 from SJKT (Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil),” he told reporters after chairing a special committee to deal with the shortage of teachers in SJKC at the education ministry here today.
