SUBANG JAYA, Aug 13 — A video by hacker group “Anonymous Malaysia” threatening cyberwar unless Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak resigns was made outside of the country, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.
The Inspector-General of Police also said that authorities have yet to confirm whether the individual in the video was a Malaysian.
“We knew that whatever the announcement made (sic) is not from Malaysia.
“Whether he is foreigner is yet to be determined,” he told a news conference here today.
The Star Online reported on August 4 that “Anonymous Malaysia” posted an eight-minute long video on its Facebook page, demanding PM Najib resign over issues plaguing his administration with a deadline set for August 29 to coincide with the start of the Bersih 4 rally.
The group threatened “all-out internet warfare” should Najib remain in power, targeting the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission as well as 150 other websites that would be “strategically selected.”
Bersih 2.0 has rejected any association with the group, and has urged police to investigate the hacker group’s warning.
Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah yesterday condemned the hacker group for making the threat and insisted that was not affiliated with Bersih despite tagging its own planned attack along with the upcoming rally on August 29.
