KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — Cartoonist Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaque, who was just charged this morning with nine counts of sedition, will be taken in again for police questioning over a new investigation, his lawyer said.
According to Latheefa Koya, Zulkiflee, better known as Zunar, will be brought to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters to record his statement once he posts bail for his sedition charges.
It is not immediately known what Zunar is being investigated for this time, but it is believed to be over a picture posted on Facebook of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s face superimposed over PKR Rafizi Ramli’s body in his purple lock-up garb.
The picture was posted on the social media site on Tuesday by the “Zunar Kartunis Fan Club” page.
Zunar, who is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, was later released on police bail after giving his statement denying any connection to the picture that was posted on the social media site.
His lawyer Michelle Yesudas said that he was in detention when the picture was posted, pointing out too that the Facebook page has 5,000 administrators.
“The very fact is that they’re just selecting Zunar because probably he’s too outspoken,” she said outside the Dang Wangi police station.
Zunar pleaded not guilty earlier today to nine charges under the Sedition Act 1948 for alleged tweets questioning the judiciary following Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s February 10 sodomy conviction.
