PETALING JAYA, July 5 ― Legendary songstress, Datuk Sharifah Aini Syed Jaafar has died at age 61 ,early today (Saturday).

According to The Star the veteran singer, fondly known as Kak Pah, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Petaling Jaya for lung infection.

Consulting Respiratory Physician Datuk Dr Zainudin Md Zain who was treating the legendary crooner described her condition as a rare one which had caused the hardening or scarring of the lungs.

A press statement stated that Sharifah Aini, who turned 61 on Wednesday was diagnosed with lung fibrosis, also known as interstitial lung disease two years ago.

The legendary singer who won a talent show in Singapore in 1968, took the entertainment industry by storm in the following year with a string of hits including Dekatlah Padaku, Bunga Tanjung and Mak Inang Melayu, a duet with the late Sudirman Haji Arshad and more.
