KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Renowned for its fusion of traditional Chinese aesthetics, Shanghai Tang has made its welcomed return to Malaysia.
Distinguished by its vibrant colours, the Hong Kong fashion brand is built on its craftsmanship, which blends heritage with contemporary elegance.
After building a presence in multiple countries across Asia, Shanghai Tang recently premiered its new boutique concept in the heart of KL, at Lalaport Bukit Bintang City Centre.
The boutique’s preview event saw the attendance of local celebrities such as Azrel Ismail, Athisha Khan, Andre Amir and Tong Bing Yu.
Spanning across 1,256 square feet, the design of the KL boutique is inspired by the quaint lanes of Shanghai. Within the space, visitors are greeted with soft fabrics, intricate porcelain and sleek lacquerware showcasing the richness of Eastern culture.
On display is the Chinese Garden Home Collection themed Crane Garden with chinoiserie designed teaware, jewellery boxes, ginger flower diffusers and candles. It draws attention to the innate allure of China with portrayals of natural elements such as rocks, trees, flowers and cranes.
For the womenswear collection Dance Ceremony, it is inspired by Chinese dancer Yang Liping’s Moonlight Dance, capturing the spirited movement of the performance. This collection combines Chinese hand drawn floral prints and Western fabrication, revealing a distinctive aesthetic.
The freedom of dance is the heart of the collection and through traditional dyeing techniques, there are floral prints in moonlight yellow and midnight blue on mulberry silk.
For the men’s Reunion collection, Shanghai Tang captures the essence of joy in family gatherings, threading a central motif throughout its design.
The collection’s standout piece is a double-stitched wool jacket, crafted to mimic denim and infuse a Western flair into the traditional garments. The Western influence is exemplified by elements like a mandarin collar and distinctive architectural sleeves.
