KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — Zurich Malaysia is giving back to Mother Nature in a big way with the Care For What Matters campaign - a series of programmes that will demonstrate Zurich Malaysia’s concern for the environment.

The insurance company announced the Urban Climate Resilience Programme, in collaboration with global partners and the government to tackle the issue of climate change and raise awareness in the urban population.

The three-year partnership will involve C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) working with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (KLCH) and Resilient Cities Network (R-Cities) with Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB).

C40 is a network of almost 100 mayors in the world's major cities, focused on facing the climate crisis head-on so that everyone will be able to survive and thrive.

R-Cities is the world's leading urban resilience organisation that educates, empowers, and funds its members to create safe and resilient communities.

The goal of Zurich Malaysia’s campaign is to build sustainable communities and systems that can overcome the challenge of climate-related catastrophes.

Zurich Malaysia also wants to lead the charge in providing support and education to protect the most vulnerable communities.

“We firmly believe that our actions today pave the way for a brighter tomorrow,” Zurich Malaysia Head and Country Chief Executive Officer Junior Cho said in a statement.

“The Care For What Matters brand campaign is an extension of our ongoing efforts to support and care for people from all walks of life.

“It signifies our determination to create a brighter future for Malaysians that is not only financially secure but also socially and environmentally responsible”.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh said in a statement, that the city is seeing an increase in the harmful impacts of extreme heat and floods.

“As the local authority, I recognise it is important that Kuala Lumpur City Hall acts now to ensure a safe and resilient tomorrow, especially for our most vulnerable populations,” Kamarulzaman said.

“In line with this as well as the spirit of Malaysia Madani, Kuala Lumpur City Hall is looking forward to partner with C40 and the Z Zurich Foundation to further strengthen our city’s climate resilience through the Urban Climate Resilience Programme, which will be undertaken with deep community engagement in selected neighbourhoods in our city.”

The Z Zurich Foundation is a Swiss charity foundation that works with Zurich Insurance Group employees, governments, and NGOs to help marginalised communities reach their full potential.

Melaka Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman added that preserving the state's Unesco World Heritage status will be important in the future.

“It is with great enthusiasm that the City of Melaka is joining the new Urban Climate Resilience Programme,” he said

“I look forward to working closely with the Resilient Cities Network and the Z Zurich Foundation to create a more sustainable and resilient future for our communities, our city, and our country.”

Another highlight of the campaign is the upcoming Karnival Kita OK! at Central Market from September 22 to 24, a carnival featuring local food vendors, clothing and accessories booths, and workshops.

The event which runs from 10am to 8pm aims to bring local vendors and communities together in good spirit to create a better tomorrow.
