KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — A couple in Indonesia threw a party to celebrate the sterilisation of their pet cats, much to the amusement of social media users.

The couple Indrawati and Bokianto organised the party on May 28 for their three cats at Banyuwangi Regency in East Java, after the May 26 procedure.

The felines' names are Cipak, Cipung and Cikoat, Tribun News reported.

Besides a dangdut band, traditional dancers were invited to enliven the event.

According to Indrawati, 51, they saved up for months to have the party. She added that they decided to have the party as a show of love for their pets despite being criticised by people for the indulgence.

According to Coconuts Jakarta, the couple spent “tens of millions of rupiah” on the party.

The event caught much attention after a photo of the invitation went viral, even attracting local news station to cover it.

The cats were said to have been abandoned in front of the couple's home seven months ago.

“I gave them the best food, I bought them milk. They were so skinny, so I gave them good food,” Indrawati said.

After nursing them to health, Indrawati and Bokianto decided to neuter them.
