KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — If you feel something has been oddly missing from Malaysian politics for quite some time, you are not wrong.

There have been no new provocative and cheeky artworks by artist Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin for about two months now on his social media platforms.

However, the graphic designer and activist is set to make a comeback with his artworks that centre on current affairs and politics in Malaysia.

Fahmi told Malay Mail that he took a short break after his return from the US where he held a speaking tour.

“I took a month break after returning from my US speaking tour in March.

“I will be back soon.”

The artist visited the US earlier this year to give talks to students at various universities including New York University, Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Fahmi said he is currently busy planning a follow-up project to his “Kelas Demokrasi untuk Pengundi Baharu” for the upcoming state elections.

“I can’t share the details yet as the project is still in the planning stage.

“But I can tell you that the classes are designed to be held online and physically with the content focusing on democracy.”

This will be the second edition to his democracy classes where he will touch on various aspects of the election, seat distribution, political parties and coalitions in video tutorials aimed at enlightening youth about the election process.

Prior to the 15th general election, Fahmi held various classes in local universities to educate the students about the election process through graphics and interactive methods.

He, however, faced uphill challenges as he was either banned or asked to stop his classes at some of the venues.

That didn’t stop the artist from taking the classes online by releasing tutorial videos on TikTok.

He was seen sitting in front of his camera with a whiteboard and some markers, teaching young voters about electoral politics.

Six states; namely Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan are set to hold their elections later this year.
