PETALING JAYA, April 15 — Art and technology lovers are in for a treat as ZHAN Art|Space in PJ joins forces with Hin Bus Depot in Penang to host Malaysia’s very first and one-of-its-kind art exhibition.

Supported by the Penang Art District, the exhibition is scheduled to happen at the same time, at two different locations with one common theme.

Of Spaces in Between exhibition curator Ivan Gabriel has selected a collection of works from 24 artists that showcases two different but complementary artworks based on the theme ‘duality’, each to be exhibited at the respective location.

With the aid of Augmented Reality (AR) technology, viewers will get to explore and discover the artworks in an immersive way without having to travel to both locations.

According to Ivan, the event is to maximise the current technology available, taking a step further in enhancing the experience of a traditional art exhibition.

With the help of PERK Reality, an augmented reality art app, viewers would be able to experience the physical artwork at one location and view the other augmented artwork through their phone, creating a harmonious dialogue.

Penang Art District project manager Kenny Ng shared that this collaboration between Hin Bus Depot and ZHAN Art|Space is a strategic move to connect both Penang and Klang Valley art institutions.

Not only does it promote the diversity and quality of contemporary art produced across Malaysia, it fosters a greater appreciation of art appreciation among the public, encouraging dialogue and ideas.

Of Spaces in Between is a visual feast for the senses that celebrates diversity, multiplicity and complexity in the human experience.

“We hope that viewers are inspired by the curated works and be awed by the possibilities of modernity,” said ZHAN Art| Space founder and curator Desmond Tong.

A participating artist is Penang-born Tiffany Choong, whose piece is titled Contemplation 1 (Pink).

“It aims to create a transcendent experience for the viewer, where one can escape the chaos of the external world and connect with a deeper, inner experience that a meditation practice offers,” explained Choong.

Other artists include Aboud Fares, Ajim Juxta, Bibichun, Christine Das, Esther Geh, Firdauz Baharudin, Haris Rashid and Hao Yuan Cheng.

Hin Bus Depot recently kick started Of Spaces in Between while ZHAN Art|Space’s is opening today (April 15) at 3pm.

Of Spaces in Between in Penang will close on April 30 whereas it closes at ZHAN Art|Space on May 15.
