NEW YORK, Aprl 7 — Summer is coming, bringing with it some extravagant fashion and beauty looks. It’s no longer a question of being natural and authentic, but of splashing flashy shades with fun and festive aesthetics. ‘Diamond lips’ are perfectly in line with this idea, as the trend involves making your lips shimmer and shine like a disco ball.

Boosting the volume of your lips while loading them with shine is what TikTok users are proposing with ‘diamond lips,’ a makeup trend that arose at the end of February and which is already gaining many followers on the Chinese social network. Perfect for the summer season and its wild parties, this beauty look is already a must-have. In fact, on TikTok, the #diamondlips hashtag has already scored nearly five million views in just over a month. And this is just the beginning, since the trend has now been tried and tested by one of beauty’s leading figures, the blogger and businesswoman Huda Kattan, founder of the cosmetics brand Huda Beauty.

Lips like a disco ball

This trick quickly went viral thanks to the user @evalarosaxo, a fan of all kinds of beauty techniques. Viewed more than 700,000 times, her video on ‘diamond lips’ was so popular that she posted other tutorials to explain how to achieve the look, even though it doesn’t really require any specific expertise, dexterity or creativity. Still, the TikToker can be credited with sparking a trend that is now widely acclaimed by her many followers, as well as by some of the world’s biggest beauty gurus.

‘Diamond lips’ require very few beauty products, making the trick highly affordable. And it’s very easy to recreate on your own. Before you start, you’ll need to grab some shimmery eyeshadow in whatever shade you like, a lip liner and a gloss. Nothing more. Then simply apply a touch of eyeshadow with a brush to the centre of the upper lip, and, more precisely, at the level of the Cupid’s bow, and to the lower lip. Note that it’s not necessary to blend the product. Then, all that’s left to do is to apply your usual lip liner to the contour, then add some gloss to boost the high-shine effect. And that’s it!

Tried and tested by Huda Kattan

This beauty trick immediately caused a sensation with hundreds of thousands of views, and as many — or almost as many — complimentary comments. Most of its fans wanted to see more comprehensive tutorials and get the names of the products used. They also quickly identified it as a new TikTok trend in the making. And they weren’t wrong. But the success of ‘diamond lips’ is not unrelated to a video of the trick posted by the makeup artist Huda Kattan, followed by almost nine million users.

Not only did the businesswoman give her seal of approval to the trend after testing it live, but her video has been seen nearly 700,000 times, allowing the initial video to stand out in the jungle of beauty trends on the Chinese social network. Considering the result, and the ease with which this makeup look can be recreated, there’s no doubt that ‘diamond lips’ will soon become a major trend on TikTok and beyond. — ETX Studio
