KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — Malaysian social media star Ms Pui Yi is now venturing into the education sector.
She is doing that by offering US$1 million (RM4.4 million) worth of scholarships to underprivileged students. She made the announcement via Instagram on February 14.
According to Pui Yi, this is one of her ways to give back to society as she understands that not everyone is handed equal opportunities when it comes to education.
She revealed that she initially wanted to go into medicine but couldn’t pursue her dream of becoming a surgeon due to various factors including financial constraints as she also came from an underprivileged family.
She also shared that she ended up pursuing a degree in business while having to work part-time as a model.
“This has always been something that I wish to hopefully make a difference some day, to give equal opportunities to deserving students that can’t afford the education they need to succeed.
“And now, I am pleased to announce that I will be launching my very own scholarship to help students achieve their dreams,” said the 24-year-old, whose real name is Siew Pui Yi.
Through her partnership with Educapital Foundation, they will be offering the scholarships to underprivileged students from all over the world including Malaysia.
“Each student will be granted US$1,000 (RM4,404) to pursue whichever educational field that they desire.
“They will also be provided access to financial hardship grants while they’re in school as well as business startup grants after graduation,” she added.
The application process involves applicants revealing the field of study being pursued such as artist management, medical assistant and even cannabis culinary.
The site also states that the scholarship is valid for only 30 days.
Previously, Pui Yi made headlines after announcing that she was shutting down her OnlyFans page to focus on her career in music as a DJ.
She has also ventured into acting, appearing in upcoming horror flick Pulau as well as KL Love Story.
