KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 — A Brazilian DJ literally partied her own face off when she fired a confetti cannon at herself during a live show.
Flavia Ribeiro, known as DJ Flavinha, required hospital treatment after suffering first-degree burns from an accident at her performance in Santa Catarina, Brazil on Saturday.
In a viral video, the DJ’s dangerous mishap happened live on stage and was captured by many concertgoers.
Unaware that it was facing the wrong way, Ribeiro fired a confetti cannon in her own face in front of an energetic crowd before quickly running off stage.
According to Ribeiro, she continued to perform her set for 20 minutes, despite heavy bleeding and pain from her injury.
“I ran behind the sound equipment and kept playing even with a lot of blood dripping, with a lot of pain,” she explained in her video.
“I threw my hair forward and I stayed there. People on my team wanted to take me out, but I didn’t want to leave.”
Eventually, she ‘couldn’t take the pain anymore’ and was rushed to an emergency room in a nearby hospital.
The Brazillian DJ assured her followers that she was recovering well and thanked online commenters for their wishes and concerns.
The Santa Catarina Fire Department had warned against the usage of such confetti cannons as they are most commonly found in concerts and festivals in Brazil, Globo reported.
The fire department said the cannons may be more dangerous as they do not have ‘specific standardisation’ and are gas-powered.
