KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 — By selling the semen of his water buffalo, a farmer in Kalasin province in northeast Thailand is making one million baht (RM131,041) monthly.
The buffalo Big Billion’s seed is used by breeders to artificially inseminate their female buffaloes in hopes of giving birth to a new generation that will grow up to sell for millions like their father.
Big Billion's owner Mongkol Mongphet said he bought the bovine six years ago for 500,000 baht (RM65,520), The Thaiger reported.
After winning several provincial beauty contests, Mongkol said he was offered 30 million baht (RM3.9 million) for Big Billion, but he refused the offer.
A farmer Prompong Pimphao said he inseminated his female buffalo Boonrad with Big Billion's semen.
Boonrad’s skin, he claimed, became beautiful when she was pregnant.
He was offered 200,000 baht (RM26,220) for the mother and unborn baby but he rejected the offer.
Boonrad had since given birth to a male calf and looks very much like its award-winning father, said Prompong.
Although Prompong was offered 500,000 baht for Boonrad and her calf, Prompong intends to raise them himself as he wants the calf to be a top breeder like its father.
