NEW YORK, Dec 2 — Adidas has revealed a new set of pre-match jerseys for soccer teams Manchester United, Juventus, Real Madrid and FC Bayern. The shirts are developed in partnership with American NGO Parley for the Oceans and are made from recycled marine plastic debris.
Soccer stars James Rodriguez of FC Bayern, Karim Benzema of Real Madrid, Mattia De Sciglio of Juventus and Jesse Lingard of Manchester United have been picked as ambassadors for the launch, Friday, December 1, of the sportswear brand’s new pre-match jerseys, made from recycled waste plastic.
Featuring the brand’s “Climalite” technology that sweeps away moisture, these sustainable jerseys with graphic motifs will be worn by players of the four clubs during pre-match training sessions.
The upcycled debris used in the jerseys was recovered from the Indian Ocean during clean-up operations in coastal areas of the Maldives organized by American NGO Parley for the Oceans, which has joined forces with the sportswear brand. The debris has then been recycled and turned into 100% polyester high-performance apparel.
Adidas isn’t the only sports brand to launch shirts made from recycled materials. Competitor Nike has also developed jerseys made from recycled plastic bottles. — AFP-Relaxnews
