KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 — I've got a soft spot for xiao long bao and this dumplings stall inside The Food Court Kopitiam at United Point does not disappoint.
Here you get six pieces of pretty large dumplings for RM10.
What I liked was they're quite generous with the meat filling making it substantial enough for a light meal. It may have less soup but it still retains its juicy bite.
Pair it with fresh ginger shreds and vinegar for a satisfying bite.
This particular stall also offers other dumplings. There's pork dumplings with various fillings from just pork or mixed with a choice of chives, cabbage and even cheese!
You can have it steamed or fried. They offer the pork dumplings for six pieces at RM10. You can also mix two flavours for a combination order for eight pieces at RM13.50.
I tried the pan fried dumplings which are served with a crispy skirt around it. In Chinese, this is known as 冰花锅贴 where a cornstarch mixture is added to the pan to bind the dumplings together to create that lacy effect.
This adds a crispy crunchy element to the pan fried dumplings. Pair with the chilli garlic sauce for a slight spicy taste.
There is also Shui Jian Bao or pan fried dumplings with soup for RM10. They serve six pieces per order.
This stall also offers claypot rice where you get toppings like spicy mala pork, Wuxiang pork ribs, chicken and a sour and spicy fish. There's also a variety of steamed dishes with rice. Select from ginger chicken, mui choy pork and chicken mushroom toppings with steamed rice.
As I'm partial to steamed soups, I was happy to see they have nine different types like the classic ABC, watercress and lotus root on offer.
I tried the old cucumber soup for RM9. If you want to pair it with rice, just add RM1 to make it a meal. The soup has a lighter flavour probably because this is steamed rather than boiled for a long time. Each bowl is served with old cucumber and pork ribs.
There's a variety of other stalls here as well selling everything from BBQ meats, Sarawak laksa, Vietnamese as well as Western. The dining space is comfortable and you have a choice between an air conditioned area or a more open space with fans.
On Google, I read a review that the wait staff here are honest as the person had accidentally left their laptop there and they kept it. Coincidentally, I witnessed a similar incident as the people at the next table left their iPad. I only noticed as the wait staff asked me if it was mine.
I then saw how they kept it in a locked room until the rightful owner came back to retrieve it, which they did later on.
Finding the food court for any first timer to this mall can be quite daunting though. Just look for lift five from the ground floor of the mall which is near Ollie & Hana Puppy Nursery and go to level B1.
