KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 — The badminton Malaysia Open is currently being held at the Axiata Arena from now until January 15, and to celebrate the occasion, Touch ‘n Go and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have teamed up to release a series of Enhanced NFC cards with some of the nation’s top players. And you thought the original NFC cards were highly sought after?
The limited edition cards (which are being released "for all BL,” which I can only assume stands for "badminton lovers” and not something else...) feature singles player Ng Tze Yong as well as doubles teams that include world champions Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia, Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Goh Sze Fei and Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan.
The nation’s more recognisable icons, Lee Zii Jia and Goh Liu Ying, are conspicuously missing from the lineup as they are not represented by BAM. The cards will go on sale at the Touch ‘n Go booths this weekend, January 14 and 15.
Touch ‘n Go is also currently selling a "special bundle deal” at the event, containing the regular blue-pink NFC card and an RFID self-fitment kit. The company did not reveal the price of the bundle on its social media, but a comment made a few hours ago stated that it is priced at RM40 (for reference, the NFC card alone retails at RM10, while the RFID kit costs RM35, so that’s a RM5 saving) and there was still some stock remaining at the time.
The company has previously reminded users to only purchase its NFC cards through official channels like this one. The Enhanced cards have not only been the prime target of scalpers but also scams—just last week, a man was swindled of more than RM23,000 after he tried to purchase four cards at RM32, or RM8 a piece. — SoyaCincau
