"We will spare no effort to ensure security and safety for the athletes from other countries and their fans as well as for all the tournaments,” Xinhua quoted him as saying in a speech during a graduation ceremony of nearly 2,000 students at the Human Resource University in Phnom Penh.

He said a number of Cambodian athletes are being trained in China in preparation for the games.

According to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, a big team of 160 athletes have been receiving intensive training in China since last September.

Meanwhile, Hun Sen called on local authorities to beautify their cities and provinces, and people to improve hygiene in their areas in order to welcome athletes, delegates and visitors during the games.

Cambodia will host the 32nd SEA Games from May 5 to 17 for the first time in 64 years. The Morodok Techo National Stadium in the capital’s northern suburb will be the centerpiece venue for official opening and closing ceremonies and tournaments.

The Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee said the event will see athletes competing in 37 sports with more than 600 disciplines. — Bernama
