Brazilian striker Diogo Luis Santo rejoins JDT

JOHOR BARU, Jan 4 — Brazilian-born striker, Diogo Luis Santo has returned to put on the jersey of the Southern Tigers for the challenges in the new season.

The development was hinted via a short video uploaded on Johor Southern Tigers official Facebook today.

In the 51-second video, the 35-year-old player was seen driving a limousine to enter Sultan Ibrahim Stadium at Iskandar Puteri.

He was also spotted wearing a coat with Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) emblem and was seen sitting in the changing room under jersey number 11 with the name Diogo.

Before this, Diogo was with nine-time Super League champions in the 2019 and 2020 seasons with 32 appearances and 16 goals.

However, the player did not renew his contract at the end of 2020 and joined Thai club, BG Pathum United.

Earlier, JDT club owner, the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim was quoted as saying that the club was planning to bring in a striker from Brazil and two Spanish players to beef up the squad for the 2023 season.

Meanwhile, JDT players and coaching team will report for pre-season training on Sunday before leaving for Dubai, United Arab Emirates for a pre-season friendly match.

JDT will be having five friendly matches against several clubs such as Rostov, Levski Moscow, Zenit St Petersburg, from Jan 28 to Feb 6. — Bernama
