LONDON, Dec 27 — Liverpool have reached an agreement with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven to sign forward Cody Gakpo.
PSV issued a statement confirming that "PSV and LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England, where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer", reported Xinhua.
The player impressed in the recent World Cup, scoring three goals as the Netherlands progressed to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
He has also scored 12 goals and given 14 assists for his club in all competitions so-far this campaign.
Southampton and Leeds United were interested in the forward this summer, but Liverpool have now moved to complete the deal and provide cover for long-term injuries, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.
The transfer window opens for clubs in England on January 1st and in theory Gakpo could make his Liverpool debut away to Brentford the following day. — Bernama
