KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — For local fans of The Strokes, they were dismayed when the American band were not able to perform here due to the cancellation of Good Vibes Festival (GVF) 2023.

But for the lucky few who managed to catch The Strokes' concert in Singapore on August 3, they were overjoyed when frontman Julian Casablancas gave them a shoutout.

Before performing their final song, Casablancas greeted and thanked their Malaysian fans for attending the concert.

"Did anyone actually come down from KL or...?” he asked, to which the Malaysians replied with a loud cheer.

"That's crazy, but thanks for coming! We're going to try to make it up there sometime,” Casablancas added.

That special moment was captured in a short video by TikTok user @cowbear22.

The Strokes' second-day concert in the Lion City was a success, following their announcement that an extra date would be added to accommodate Malaysian fans who missed them at GVF.

The band performed 16 of their hits during the concert including Last Nite and Reptilia, according to says.com.

The band also stated on Instagram that Malaysian fans would receive free shipping if they purchase The Strokes' printed posters.

After the cancellation of GVF, Casablancas posted on social media on July 23 that they were ‘working out something’, hinting at an impromptu concert in Kuala Lumpur.

However, Future Sound Asia Director of Entertainment Wan Alman said at a press conference that the band would not be able to make it due to other scheduled concerts.

"There were initial discussions with The Strokes to bring them back, but unfortunately due to scheduling issues we couldn’t make that happen.”

The Strokes were set to headline the third day of GVF and it would have been their first performance in Malaysia since 2011.
